Friday, April 23
- Dr. Kunar's Upper School physics students will travel to St. Michael's Medical Center in Newark for a tour of the hospital's radiology department with Dr. Suresh Mody, Board of Trustees member, the father of Devi '10 and Kush '13, and the Chairman of Radiology at St. Michael's.

Saturday, April 24
- Senior Italian Night/Auction at 6 p.m. in the AP Room. See announcement below for details.

Thursday, April 29
- Upper School Art Exhibit at 6:30 p.m. in the school foyer and hallways

- Upper School Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m. in the AP Room

ROMEO, ROMEO!...A performance of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet was presented on April 19 for Middle School students and Dr. David Berry's Upper School English students. The Wardlaw-Hartridge Parents' Association funded the performance, which was organized by Lori Brown-James (current parent). The cast is pictured above as the students ask questions following the play.

The annual Senior Class Italian Night/Auction will be held this Saturday, April 24, at 6 p.m. in the AP Room! Italian Night consists of a wonderful Italian dinner followed by an auction led by Roland Marionni, Upper School chemistry teacher.

Dawn Francavilla Named United Way of Central Jersey's Hometown Hero

On the evening of April 15, Dawn Francavilla, Director of Student Life, was honored as a 2010 United Way of Central Jersey "Hometown Hero" at a special reception at the Hess Corporate Center in Woodbridge. Susan Swenson, Director of College Counseling, and Allyson Schieve, Director of the Writing Center, also attended the reception.

Festive Faculty/Staff Book Discussion & Dinner Focuses on "Global Achievement Gap"

Faculty and staff members were all abuzz on the afternoon of April 19 as they anticipated a lively book discussion and dinner with their colleagues. They had read Tony Wagner's "The Global Achievement Gap: Why Even Our Best Schools Don't Teach the New Survival Skills Our Children Need - And What We Can Do About It." The delicious gourmet Italian meal was prepared by Roland Marionni, US chemistry teacher, and Alessandra Cozzi, US history and Italian teacher. MS teachers and Kathy Meier, LS science and technology teacher, contributed various dessert items.

James O'Halloran Selected to Attend 2010 China Study Tour This Summer

James O'Halloran, Dean of Students and Upper School history teacher, will attend the China Institute's Study Tour on History, Culture and Sustainable Development from July 19 to August 9. The program of workshops and site visits will allow Mr. O'Halloran, who is one of 15 selected qualified educators, to experience China first-hand.

Sofia Tamayo, Middle School Spanish and Prima Lingua teacher, recently learned that she was the only recipient of a 2010 American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) Summer Scholarship to McGill University offered by the Centre d'Education Permanente at McGill.

DISTINCT HONOR...Saheela Ibraheem '11 will attend the New Jersey Governor's School in the Sciences in July.

Susan Swenson, Director of College Counseling, reported that Saheela Ibraheem '11 has been selected as a New Jersey Governor’s School Scholar for the 26th New Jersey Governor’s School in the Sciences to be held at Drew University from July 11 to July 31.

Sharon Byrne, music teacher, announced at Morning Meeting on April 19 that Milika Griffiths '12 was named to the New Jersey All-State Mixed Chorus.

Lower School Students Celebrate Earth Day

Kathy Meier, Lower School science and technology teacher, reported on the activities students have been working on to focus on the importance of Earth Day, April 22. These activities will be ongoing and will continue into May.

Rams Varsity Baseball Team to Recognize Autism Awareness

Patricia Malizia, Director of Athletics, has announced that the Rams Varsity Baseball team will participate in special activities to recognize April as Autism Awareness Month.

The Wardlaw-Hartridge Boys' Varsity Tennis team participated in a fundraising event courtesy of the ShopRite supermarket in Edison on April 18.
